Why Nutrition Sometimes Gets on My Nerves
But perhaps I should briefly introduce myself before we really get started…
My name is Anne, and I'm a nutrition scientist. And if I'm completely honest, I would probably have studied something else had I known in 2003 which direction this whole nutrition business would take over the following decades.
I've now been working in counselling and teaching for over 15 years, and since 2023 I've had my own website, where I offer my services digitally. Yes, perhaps I'm arrogant to think that the world has been waiting for me and my musings. Perhaps I'm also naive to hope that people will beat down my door because they want the best advice on their diet from me.
But when I think about it carefully, that's not it.
Unfortunately, the field of nutrition attracts many people who want to make a quick buck - and do so very successfully - yet have little real knowledge of what they're talking about. That isn't meant to sound bitter, but it is the reality.
Just take a look at social media, for example, and you quickly see that the self-proclaimed experts have the biggest accounts, with hundreds of thousands of followers, yet are primarily selling products and using their own good looks, with six-pack abs and enormous biceps, as a marketing strategy.
And yes, they do it well. I'll give them that, without a trace of envy.
When I then read the accompanying captions, the words drive me up the wall every time. Sweeping, poorly substantiated claims that sell one particular product as the cure-all for excess weight, or the pill that can work wonders to halt the ageing process.
Yes, I have a professional Instagram account too.
And like many other genuinely credible nutrition experts, I'm muddling along at somewhere around 200 followers. And it's not growing. Not because what I put out is bad content, but because the posts simply aren't being shown. The algorithm, I suppose… There just aren't enough elaborately edited Reels with great music, or perhaps I'm simply not hip enough as a person.
“Social media isn't my whole world. It doesn't determine my life or my worth. But it allows me to reach others who think the way I do. And if that's only 200 people, that's perfectly fine.”
Anne Krenzin
I'm completely fine with that! I don't want to be an influencer who documents the day on their phone 24/7 and shares their most private moments with the whole world. Quite the opposite: I like my privacy! And, to be honest, I'd rather invest my time in my actual work than in the elaborate production of Reels, Stories and the like.
Why I'm Carrying On Anyway
What I do want is to share my knowledge and experience with you. To give you tips that suit you and your life. To help you find your own path to the right way of eating.
And no, there is no one-size-fits-all recipe for that. There is no ONE right way of eating that applies to everyone. Because every person is different, with different circumstances, preferences and tastes.
If you feel like it, join me on this blog as I journey through the world of food. Not every article will be interesting for everyone. That's fine! There are so many facets of nutrition that I'd like to explore here that I simply can't always reach everyone.
But if, among all the posts to come, there is just one that helps you with your own nutrition, then I've done everything right.
To give you a brief glimpse of what to expect here in the future: once a week there will be a simple, quick recipe to inspire you. I'll explore the subject of eating behaviour so that you can better understand your own habits. There will be posts on weight loss and children's nutrition, and of course I'll also regularly pick up on current topics that are occupying the nutrition world.
I'd be delighted if you'd like to join me along the way.
With love
Your Anne
